Cellar Keeper hands you a two-floor cellar and 468 named wines to put away, and the part that costs you time is not the sorting rule. Every bottle reads as a vineyard and a varietal — Amberglow Semillon, Deeproot Merlot — and the varietal alone decides which shelf it belongs on. Thirty shelves, thirty varietals, no ambiguity.

What the bottle does not tell you is where that shelf physically stands, or which group on it the wine goes into. Those are the two things worth having written down, and they are what the rest of this page is.

The map runs the opposite way to your feet

The in-game maps list the shelves clockwise, starting at the top and coming around the outside to the right. Walk the room instead — in through the entrance door on the lower floor, or off the staircase on the upper one — and the same shelves start on your left and run the other way.

So the order below is map order, not walking order. If you are standing in the room and reading it as a route, you want it backwards. The maps also list the varietals alphabetically, which is not how the shelves are arranged on the floor, so the alphabetical strip along the edge of the map is an index rather than a walking order.

What the group numbers mean

Every shelf splits its wines into groups by how many bottles that wine comes in. Only four group sizes exist across the whole cellar: nine, six, five and three.

Six is the rare one. It appears on exactly two shelves, Pomegranate and Mead, and both of those are the shelves inside the round room on the upper floor. Nowhere else in the building uses it.

At the other end, six shelves use only a single group — Bogazkere, Grenache, Blueberry, Strawberry, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc — and in every one of those cases that group is the five. Those shelves are fifteen labels with no internal sorting to think about.

Most shelves hold fifteen wines. Four hold twenty, and they are the only four that use three groups at once: Semillon, Pinot Grigio, Okuzgozu and Malbec. Two hold just twelve, Sangiovese and Pinot Meunier.

First floor

The first floor map covers eighteen shelves, running clockwise from the entrance. The staircase interrupts the run partway around, which is the landmark to count from when you are working out how far round you have got.

Semillon

Glera holds the cellar’s one misleading bottle. Its fifteenth label reads Glera Glera in the listing, while the bottle itself is labelled Novafizz, and it is filed below under the name you will actually be holding.

The second floor map covers twelve shelves, clockwise from the staircase. Five of them are not grapes at all, and one is not wine, but they sit in the run without any separation from the varietals around them.

Vineyard names that vary between bottles

Forty-two vineyards supply the cellar, and a handful of them appear under more than one spelling depending on which bottle you are looking at. They are the same producer in each case, and they are filed above under the spelling that appears most often:

  • Kestrel Ridge also turns up as Kestral Ridge, and once as plain Kestrel
  • Mediterranean Pearl is shortened to Mediterranean on two bottles
  • Verdant Drop appears once as Verdant
  • Thornback has one entry that runs the vineyard and varietal together with no separator

None of these change where a bottle goes. They only matter when you are scanning a shelf for a name and the one you remember is spelled slightly differently on the bottle in your hand.
